In the development of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), the international focus is on China, Europe and North America. However, it appears that a small Caribbean country stole the show from Asia and the West.
The Bahamas will indeed launch a CBDC tomorrow, October 20, 2020, which is already ready for international transactions.
According to the Nassau Guardian, the Central Bank of the Bahamas (CBOB) has announced that it will make this CBDC, the sand dollar, “interoperable” with international fiat currencies.
